The Whitsandays is a vast area that includes numerous islands and reef complexes.  The majority of this area is an unspoilt natural tropical marine wonderland, dotted with a plethora of beautiful islands.  Boat based fishing options are excellent. Trailer boat access from various locations on the mainland is possible.  There are also very many charter boat operations in the area.

Prosperine, Airlie Beach, Shute Harbour and Conway Beach all offer good access for boats as well as charter operations.  There are also very many island resorts such as Hamilton and Hayman, most of which provide access to charter operations.

Pelagics are a big drawcard in this area, including tuna, mackerel, queenfish, trevally, cobia, marlin and sailfish.  It is best to focus is on the exposed eastern sides of islands and reefs.  Offshore area of particular note include: South Molle Island. Langford Island, Deloraine Island and Solway Pass.

Fishing is good all year round.  Spanish mackerel, marlin and sailfish are best from late winter into spring.

The Whitsunday region has two domestic airports. One is on Hamilton Island and the other is the Whitsunday Coast Airport on the mainland at Proserpine.
