Townsville is almost a grown up city equipped with an airport and a complete range of accommodation to suit all tastes.
It has plenty of shore based fishing with the Townsville Harbour and breakwall being hot spots for a variety of species.

Townsville is also has Magnetic Island fairly close offshore with good shore based fishing.  Magnetic Island has vehicular ferry and passenger ferry services.

Inshore boating options are numerous. Nine estuaries enter the Bay.  The Ross River has barramundi, flathead, whiting and bream.
Crocodile and Alligator Creeks produce barramundi and mangrove jack in summer, and bream, whiting, flathead, threadfin salmon, queenfish, trevally, cod in winter.   Magnetic Island shelters much of the bay from strong winds.  Numerous reefs and rubble structures in the bay provide good fishing.

Offshore fishing is excellent.  Good reefs are at Cape Cleveland but the main attraction is Cape Bowling Green for sailfish and mackerel.  Bowling Green may be one of the best sailfish location in the world.

Fishing is good all year round.  Peak period for sailfish is between June and October.

Townville airport is a key regional airport located 5km west of the city centre.
